In Eastern thought, it embraces both the distant past and the far future through an unbroken continuity.
It is my hope that the universal and powerful creative message I encountered through the Gobi Jacket will continue to live on within us for years to come. Through this installation, I hope to open a new door within myself and share that moment of awakening with all of you.”
GOBI KU-ON JACKET explores two contrasting dimensions of the Gobi through a pair of patchwork jackets. One expresses strength through bold fading lines in sumi ink and circular motifs built from layered resin. The other explores a more spiritual dimension through embroidery, gradients of washi paper and delicate threadwork. Together, the two pieces reflect the duality of the Gobi while celebrating its enduring strength, craftsmanship and ability to transcend time.
Yoshinori Ono is a designer with extensive experience in sportswear and fashion, and a long-standing collaborator of Parajumpers. His practice explores the relationship between the functionality of sportswear and the aesthetics of fashion and art, guided by the belief that beauty and function are inseparable. Through his work, Ono brings together technical design, craftsmanship and artistic expression.
