The Gobi is transformed through bold, adventure-inspired characters and symbols, from stars and mountains to the central “explorer.” The artwork represents a subconscious journey through thoughts and ideas, where unexpected discoveries can emerge from seemingly nowhere. Adventure becomes a metaphor for this creative process: a journey towards the unknown, where the most surprising discoveries are often found along the way.
Joe Whale (b. 2009, United Kingdom), also known as The Doodle Boy ( @thejoewhale ), is a contemporary artist now based in Adelaide, Australia. Working across monochrome ink and painting, his practice is driven by the creation of entire worlds populated by invented characters, creatures and forms. What began as an instinctive approach to drawing has evolved into a distinctive visual language and an expanding contemporary art practice.
