Who would have thought that surfers would try to catch the perilous cold waves of the Great North, instead of opting for the sandy beaches of the Pacific coast? Well, Ingólfur Már Olsen (“Ingo“) and Hreinn Eliasson (“Rain“), two born and bred Icelanders, decided that no wave of the Arctic's turbulent deep blue sea is too great for them.
Located in the polar region at the northernmost part of the Earth, the Arctic has become the playground of this one-of-a-kind surfer duo, whose passion is to wake up in the half-light every morning of their lives for the sake of surfing and living free with pounding hearts, souls at play.
“Surfing, the sport itself, it's traveling, it's outdoor, it's nature and it's healthy, it's fitness. So it's a perfect thing to do,“ explained Ingo, who can't get enough of surfing the ends of the world. A few years ago, the two die-hard adventurous surfers turned their passion into a real mission and founded Arctic Surfers – Iceland's one-and-only surfing tour operator that fills you with the joys of chasing and catching waves under nature's most extreme conditions.
Arctic Surfer is more than just a tour operator for surf aficionados, it's a personal lifetime experience for anyone that wishes to not only chase, but also to tame the waves, while discovering the best surf spots and marveling at Iceland's untouched natural beauty – reefs, glaciers, caves, waterfalls and hot springs – that offers the last wilderness frontiers where an adventurous mind is a must.
But be aware: Iceland's natural beauty comes with danger. Ingo and Rain know too well about the peril of the restless sea and Iceland's extreme weather conditions, yet they're never afraid of camping out in the Wild, if it allows them the enjoy the thrill of chasing swells.
“One of the most difficult things in surfing is of course reading the ocean, you just have to put in the time. You have to think about currents, reefs, waves, and animals in the water,“ added Ingo, while emphasizing that they've traveled around the globe searching for waves, but keeps on returning to the reefs of Iceland, where mother nature has always provided them with the greatest challenges to overcome.
To match the needs required by Ingo and Rain's extreme sport performances, Massimo Rossetti pushed ParaJumpers' technical boundaries once again. In fact, Rosetti responded to the Arctic's extreme conditions with the new Type N-3B Flee Market Parka Fall/Winter 2015-16 collection – a range of men's and women's wear outdoor garments that fuses technical innovation with traditional Italian craftsmanship.
In fact, the Flea Market Parka collection meets the needs of extreme sport aficionados and keeps them warm and safe during their many adventurous expeditions, thanks to a down fill that comprises a water resistant treated shell, micro ottoman stitching, breathable lamination, a detachable lined faux fur hood, as well as button up storm flaps and specially created hand warm pockets.
But the most enjoyable part of being an Arctic Surfer is not only the thrill of extreme sports, but also the bliss of every single moment – the waves that stir the heart, and the freedom of the mind that quits arguing and listens to the rhythm of the ocean. “In the morning, when we’re ready to go on the road, we don’t always know where we’re going,” Rain smiled “We just chase the position and the weather, and the swell and the waves.”
