The American Leather Dream

The American Leather Dream
2013-12-04 16:27:00

During the night of May 21st, 1927, while flying "The Spirit of St. Louis" solo, Charles Lindbergh landed at the French airport of Le Bourget, near Paris, in the midst of a delirious crowd. C.L’s first words were "They took me for a crazy cowboy ... a cowboy from heaven".

He also distinguished himself as a pioneer of the American air mail service, and at the time he wore the legendary "Summer A-1" leather flight jacket.

The "A1" was the predecessor of the "A2" leather jacket used by American pilots during World War II.

The roots of the leather jacket can be found in American sportswear, and, like all American legends, it also owes a lot - if not everything - to the big screen: the images of Cary Grant in a flight jacket in the film "Only Angels Have Wings" (1939), Marlon Brando in "The Wild One" (1953) with his black biker jacket and Peter Fonda in "Easy Rider" (1969) wearing a black Café Racer, are indelibly imprinted on the minds of several generations of viewers.

What doesn't change is the magic of a leather jacket. They are natural and living garments, which like wood, change over time.

Leather jackets still maintain a strong artisan element, even with today’s manufacturing industry, especially in the cutting, which is meticulously carried out by hand.

The cutter also has the task of deciding on how the pieces will be assembled, ensuring the chromatic homogeneity of the various pieces, which by nature, like fabrics, are not uniform and regular but differ from each another. Thanks to their small flaws, they are unique.

The Parajumpers’ collection features several models that combine soft nappa with 90/10 down padding, shearling and combinations of shearling-leather and nylon-leather. Fashionable, comfortable and extremely warm garments.
